How to get to Toruń?

Toruń lies on the Vistula, about two hundred kilometers north-west of Warsaw which is the closest international airport and railway hub.

You will get to Toruń most conveniently by taking a plane to Bydgoszcz, Warsaw, Poznań or Łódź and then by train. It is best to use the on-line rail route planner to find out the exact departure times for the trains. Depending on your flight, the starting station may be 'Warszawa Centralna', 'Bydgoszcz Glowna', 'Poznan Glowny', 'Gdansk Glowny', 'Lodz Kaliska', and the destination is 'Torun Glowny'

Warsaw Frederick Chopin Airport is connected to “Warszawa Centralna” Railway Station (Warsaw Central Railway Station) by a municipal bus line and taxis. Bus line 175 runs all week from 04:50 to 23:00. The ride takes approx. 25 minutes. The bus ticket (valid 40 minutes) can be purchased in the Arrivals Hall. The price is 2.80 PLN. Three taxi corporations offer services from the airport to the railway station: Merc Taxi, MPT Radio Taxi, Sawa Taxi. The ride costs about 40 PLN. Other non-corporate taxi services are not recommended.

Taxi: the ride to the city centre takes about 3 minutes and costs about 12 PLN (3 €). Recommended taxi corporations include 9195 and 9197. The fares per 1 kilometre are displayed in the windows. Taxis can be ordered by calling +48 56 1 9195 or +48 56 1 9197.

Bus: lines 22 and 27 connect the railway station to the city centre. The stop near the city centre (marked on the map below with a black dot) is the second stop, that is the stop immediately after crossing the large bridge.


Bus tickets, available from newspaper kiosks, cost about 2.5 PLN.

12 The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (NCU), founded in 1945, is the biggest university in northern Poland and is outstanding both in terms of its scientific potential as well as the courses of study on offer, forms of education, and numbers of students and graduates.
